When is my Selawat not accepted?
The speciality of Selawat is that there is not a situation where selawat is not accepted. Selawat is accepted at every point of time and any state that we are in.
Why must I do it 40 days?
In Islam, the number 40 has a sacred significance. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ did his seclusion for 40 days before receiving revelation from Allah s.w.t. through Sayyidina Jibril a.s. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was raised as a prophet at age 40. Furthermore, the 'ulama (scholars) have said that when someone does a deed for 40 days (consistently), the deed will be "stuck" to the person. At circumstances whereby the deed cannot be done (say, women not being able to recite the Quran during menstruation after the 40 day habit), the reward will continue to flow for the person.
Is Selawat wajib?
When we do selawat, we are doing the deed of Allah and His angels and we are also responding to the command of Allah as stated in surah al-Ahzab verse 56. "Indeed, Allah confers blessing upon the Prophet, and His angels [ask Him to do so]. O you who have believed, ask [ Allah to confer] blessing upon him and ask [ Allah to grant him] peace."
Why do people send salams to prophet muhammad ﷺ?
Sending salam (peace) and blessings to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is a way for us to build connection with the prophet. It is also a means for us to attain closeness to Rasulullah ﷺ in the Hereafter and to attain his intercession.
Is there dress code for the gathering of Selawat?
No, there is no dress code for the event. You can come as you are. It is, however, recommended to dress modestly to respect the sanctity of the mosque.
