Virtues of the Blessed Sandal
Aside from poetry, drawings and merchandise of the Sandals of Rasulullah ﷺ have also been produced and distributed as it is known to protect a person from overpowering enemies, envious eye guard a person’s house from fire, caravans from attack, ships from disaster and property from being stolen. If a woman were to hold it in her right hand while she is in labour, by Allah’s strength and power, her delivery will be made easy.
It has been recorded that Shaykh Abu Ja’far Ahmad bin Abdul al-Majid, a righteous Shaykh gave a replica image of the Sandals of Rasulullah ﷺ. Not too long after, one of his students went to him saying “From the blessings of the Sandal I was witness to the most astounding thing last night! My wife was suffering intense pain and was on the verge of death, so I took the image of the Sandal and placed it on the site of her pain and supplicated, ‘O Allah, show me the blessings of the owner of this Sandal!’ Right then, immediately after I supplicated, Allah healed her!”
Although time has resulted in the physical separation between Rasulullah ﷺ and lovers, it is through the aforementioned efforts that scholars and saints have managed to preserve the imprint and presence of Rasulullah ﷺ in the hearts of generations through words and visual representations.
It could be that the testification of a true lover is through the longing of his heart and following the footsteps of the Beloved rather than seeing the image of the Beloved. It could be that the relics left behind by our Beloved is a message that he once walked this earth, he lived his life here, he made full use of the tools that Allah s.w.t. has given to him. Thus, we too should do the same. There is a saying that goes, “There is more than meets the eye” - how true is this statement. If Paradise lies under the feet of our Mothers, as promised and guaranteed by Rasulullah ﷺ, himself, what about the feet and sandals of Rasulullah ﷺ?
